Literacy skills are needed by students to understand and solve problems related to reading, writing, listening and speaking activities. Indonesia is ranked quite concerned about the literacy skills of students when compared to other countries. This research was conducted in one of the state elementary schools in Yogyakarta province. This research is motivated by the low ability of students in writing literacy of grade 5 elementary school students. To improve writing literacy skills, the government has launched school literacy activities to be carried out at all levels of education, from elementary to high school. This school literacy program can be developed by educational units in the form of various fun activities and adapted to the character and carrying capacity of the school. This research aims to determine the extent to which students' writing literacy skills increase. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method. The subjects of this study were 25 grade 5 elementary school students. The data collection technique used was by interviewing school principals, teachers and students as well as observation and questionnaires. School literacy activities are proven to be able to improve students' writing literacy skills.
