Abstract

Currently, researchers are competing to study ethnomathematics with the aim of exploring the relationship between mathematics and culture. One culture that has the potential to be integrated with mathematics is the Bolon traditional house. The Bolon traditional house is one of the traditional houses of one of the largest tribes in Indonesia who inhabit the island of North Sumatra. Bolon traditional houses have distinctive characteristics ranging from materials, reliefs printed on the walls, and so on. The aim of this research is to design mathematical problems that are integrated with the Bolon traditional house. This research is a type of development research or R & D (Research and Development). This research is included in level one of R & D. The result of this research is the realization of the design of mathematical problems that are integrated with the Bolon traditional house with material on the Pythagorean theorem. The parts of the Bolon traditional house that can be integrated with mathematics include the roof of the Bolon house, the stairs of the house, and ornaments on the Bolon house such as the dalihan natolu gorga and the jenggar gorga.
