Abstract

Ethnomathematics is a science that combines mathematical concepts with a culture that develops in people's lives. One of the cultural icons that has a different history and philosophy in each region of the Nusantara is batik. The batik motif that will be examined in depth in this research is batik with the Jlamprang motif originating from the city of Pekalongan. This research aims to examine the history, meaning and philosophy of the Jlamprang batik motif, describe the relationship between Jlamprang batik and the six fundamental aspects according to Bishop and introduce and preserve Jlamprang batik to the general public. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The methods used include observation and literature study. The research results show that there are fundamental mathematical aspects to Jlamprang batik: 1) The Counting aspect is found in the number of each motif found on Jlamprang batik; 2) The Locating aspect is found in determining the placement of the patterns found on Jlamprang batik; 3) The Measuring aspect is found in the estimation of the area and comparison of each motif; 4) The Designing aspect is found in the symmetry and congruence as well as the geometric transformation of Jlamprang batik; 5) The Playing aspect is found in the strategy and making of Jlamprang batik; 6) The explaining aspect is found in explaining the meaning and use of Jlamprang batik.
