Abstract

Mathematics learning is learning that is often considered difficult because of the relatively monotonous way of learning, such as only memorizing formulas without being given an explanation related to its usefulness in life. In connection with the learning situation, it is necessary to have a contextual approach so that learning becomes more effective. One approach that can be used is the link between the surrounding culture and mathematical aspects. The link between the concept of culture and mathematics is the concept in ethnomathematics. Therefore, research into one of the cultures that exist in the surrounding life uses an object, namely Gebang Temple. This research uses literature study methods and direct observation. This research aims to describe Gebang Temple according to mathematical fundamental activities. The results of the exploration of Gebang Temple on mathematical fundamental activities related to mathematics learning are as follows: (1) counting, namely calculating certain parts of the temple, (2) measuring, namely measuring certain parts of the temple, (3) locating, namely knowing the location and position of Gebang Temple and its components, (4) designing, namely determining the shapes in the temple, and (5) playing, namely finding possible methods in manufacturing. and (6) explaining, namely explaining related to Gebang Temple.
