Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research was conducted with the aim of describing the level of students' mathematics anxiety in learning quadratic equations. The population in this study were 13 students in grade IX of junior high school. The data collection technique used a student mathematics anxiety scale questionnaire which contained 23 questions with 3 indicators and analyzed in the form of descriptive statistics which were then categorized based on 4 categories, including very high, high, medium, and low. After producing a description of the level of mathematics anxiety, then 4 students were selected where each student represented each category to be analyzed descriptively the answers to the questionnaire that had been given. The results showed that there were no students who experienced anxiety levels in the very low category. In the very high category, it can be seen that the number of students who have a level of math anxiety is less than the other anxiety level categories, namely only 1 student, in the high math anxiety level category there are 2 students, many students in the medium math anxiety level category are the same as many students in the low student anxiety level category, namely 5 students.
