Abstract

Mathematics is an integral part of education, from elementary school to college. Mathematical concepts and ideas have broad relevance in various sciences and everyday life. However, in the context of mechanical engineering education, mathematics is often considered irrelevant by some students, which can impact their vocational skills. This research revealed that some students see mathematics as less relevant to Mechanical Engineering due to the lack of concrete connections and practical opportunities in mathematics teaching. However, a strong understanding of mathematics has a positive impact on vocational achievement. Efforts to address this problem involve increasing the integration of mathematics in the curriculum, extra support for struggling students, emphasizing the importance of mathematics in Mechanical Engineering, and providing concrete examples. It is hoped that this action will increase students' understanding of the relevance of mathematics in Mechanical Engineering, improve the quality of vocational education, and ensure students have a strong mathematical understanding appropriate to job requirements.
