The purpose of this research is to explore teachers' perceptions of students who stay a grade. This study employs descriptive quantitative research methods, utilizing two research instruments: interviews and questionnaires. In education, schools can assess students' success through their academic performance. Each school has its criteria for determining students' promotion or retention. Schools conduct evaluations at the end of the semester to assess the achievement of learning objectives. During these evaluations, some students meet the Minimum Graduation Criteria (KKM), while others do not. This distinction leads teachers to form perceptions of whether students should move on to the next grade or stay a grade. Based on interviews supported by questionnaires, some teachers have different perceptions of students who stayed a grade. Some teachers believe that there are factors that can help students progress to the next class, while others argue that students who do not meet the KKM should stay a grade.
